Proliderm 5% Cream is a topical antiparasitic treatment containing 5% permethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid used for the treatment of scabies and lice infestations. It acts on the nerve function of mites and lice to paralyse and kill the parasites and their eggs, helping to bring an uncomfortable infestation under control. How it is used: for scabies, the cream is generally applied in a thin, even layer over clean, dry and cool skin, covering all the body areas specified in the enclosed instructions. Whole-body application helps reach both affected and hidden areas. It is left on for the recommended treatment period and then washed off thoroughly. Because reinfestation is possible, close household and intimate contacts may need treating at the same time to reduce the risk of the problem returning. What to expect: temporary burning, stinging, redness, irritation or itching may occur after application. Itching can continue for several weeks even after successful treatment; this is common and does not necessarily mean treatment has failed. Important: for external use only.
